Parkston – Verna Biederstedt, 91, went to her heavenly home Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Avera Bormann Manor. Memorial service will be Thursday, May 22 at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am, at St Peter Lutheran Church near Armour. Commital service will be Friday, May 23 at 2:30 pm MST at Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis.
Verna was born September 20, 1933 to Christ and Anna (Gutschmidt) Hertel on the family farm near Wakpala, SD. She attended Roosevelt Country School near McLaughlin, SD through the 8th grade. She worked as a waitress in the local café for a short period of time. She was united in marriage to Howard Biederstedt on June 20, 1954 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in McLaughlin. The couple lived in McLaughlin where Verna babysat and worked in the hotel cleaning rooms. In 2005, they moved to Armour, SD. Verna was a dedicated homemaker and took pride in keeping things tidy and neat. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and later St. Peter Lutheran Church near Armour and the ladies aide of both. She enjoyed embroidery, puzzles, word searches and making homemade candy.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Patty (Rick) Theis of Glencoe, MN.; two sons, Greg (Pat) Biederstedt of Hayti, SD and Todd (Marian) Biederstedt of Armour; four grandchildren, Jill (Jason) Rotter of Glencoe; Tadd (Jennifer) Biederstedt of Sioux Falls, SD; Evan Biederstedt of Boston, MA, and Kaci (Jordan) Husted of Great Falls, MT; 2 great-grandchildren, Berkeley and Beckett Husted; a sister, Irene Biederstedt of Mobridge, SD; and a sister-in-law, Alma Hertel of Great Falls, MT.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; and 2 brothers, Robert and Harold Hertel.
