Obituary of Stuart Raymond Boughey

Please share a memory of Stuart to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Stuart Raymond Boughey, 75, went to his heavenly home Monday, February 24, 2025 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Stu will be laid to rest Thursday, February 27 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour accompanied by his faithful companion of 16 years, Sasha.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Stu was born October 11,1949 in Spirit Lake Iowa to Raymond and Bessie Boughey. He was welcomed home by his big sister Sharilyn Hawley. Sharilyn would forever be the best big sister a guy could ask for. They lived in Laurens, Iowa before moving to Canova, S.D. Stu attended school a couple of years before the family moved to Armour, S.D. Where Stu graduated with the Class of 1968. Stu thoroughly enjoyed all of his classmates and tried to never miss a reunion where he would relive all the fun and mischievous things he did. It is said that anything worth doing, Stu did it and have the time of his life doing it. Upon graduation from high school in Armour he attended Western Technical School in Denver for front end alignments and mechanics. After college he returned to Laurens where he worked at Dudley Implement and Larson Oil before purchasing Millward Plumbing to start his own plumbing business. While in Laurens he married Terry Mackey and to this union a daughter Niki Kay was born. Stu was a very active member of the Laurens Fire Dept. and also an EMT for many years. He then went to work at the Albert Feed Mill until it burned down.

In 1988 he moved to Mitchell, S.D. and worked at Graham Tire along side his great friend Casey Carda. On October 16, 1993 he and Connie Christensen Lindsey were married at Lake Mitchell. Following his employment at Graham Tire he worked at Twin City Fan and SDI before landing his dream job at Paulson Heating and Sheet Metal as an HVAC estimator. Stu really enjoyed his work at Paulson’s until his health forced him to retire in 1995. Stu’s kidney failure forced him to be placed on the waiting list for a new kidney. With his health rapidly declining and no donations coming, Connie volunteered to undergo the testing to donate her kidney to him. The match was good enough for them to do the first husband and wife transplant done at Mckennan Hospital on 4/8/96. After the transplant then his heart started fail.

Stu would endure numerous other health crisis over the next 29 years but fought valiantly. He enjoyed working on old cars with Casey. Stu enjoyed woodworking, took up oil painting and even picked up his guitar and taught himself how to play again. He even figured out how he could sit on a bucket to catch for Kayla who wanted to be a fast pitch softball pitcher. This brought him tremendous joy over the years and extreme gratification in attending her games all over the country. He took great pride in watching all of his grandkids in their actives and did not miss a game or a match.

Grateful for having shared Stu’s life were his wife Connie, his sister Sharilyn Hawley, daughter Niki, Step Daughter Eve Lindsey and grandchildren Dawson and Jayden (Niki’s) and Kyle, Kayla, Kara, Konnor, Kory, and Kole (Eve’s children). And Great Granddaughter’s Bentley (Kyles) and Saige (Konnors) and numerous nieces and nephews which he adored.

Stu was preceded in death by his mom and dad; and his mother-in-law (Verla Christensen) and his father-in-law (Wendell Christensen).
