Obituary of Evelyn Darlin O'Connor

Evelyn Darlin O’Connor, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 28, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society in Corsica. There will be a private committal service at Black Hills National Cemetery later this summer. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Evelyn was born March 30, 1928, to Arthur and  Laurence Marie (Baguhn) Clocksin in Plevna, MT. She graduated from Carter County High School in Ekalaka, MT, and attended 1 year of art school at Hillsdale College. She was united in marriage to Daniel Roscoe O’Connor on December 21, 1948, in Ekalaka, MT. To this union six children: James, Susan, Janis, Nancy, Caryn, and David were born. The family lived in Whittier, CA, and then Riverside, CA, where they lived until Dan's retirement in 1977. They then moved to Rapid City, SD, where they lived  together for the next 17 years. Following her husband’s death in 1994, Evelyn continued living in Rapid City, caring for their daughter Caryn and being a faithful part of her church community. Evelyn loved reading her Bible, gardening, serving at her church, baking, and making tote bags for the homeless shelter. In 2009, Evelyn moved to Mitchell, SD, where she was a member of the Reunion Church and spent her time making quilts for missions and the local nursing homes. In her latter years, she enjoyed drawing wildflowers, sewing, cooking, and baking.

Grateful for having shared her life are her five children: Jim (Sarah) O’Connor of Littleton, CO; Sue (Paul) Bruening of Nampa, ID; Janis (Dirk) Van Vuuren of Corsica, SD; Caryn O’Connor of Mitchell, SD; and David (Frances) O’Connor of Ridgecrest, CA; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Marilyn Albright and ArlIn Bartholomew; and a sister-in-law, Dianne Clocksin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Marie Clocksin; husband, Dan; daughter, Nancy; 2 sisters, Geraldine Bruski and Orva Lovec; and a brother, Ellis Clocksin.
