Obituary of David Ernest Scheetz

Parkston – David Ernest Scheetz,83 , went to his heavenly home Friday, May 2, 2025 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston.  Funeral service will be Thursday, May 8 at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Wednesday, May 7 from 5 to 7 pm, with a 7:00 pm prayer service, at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston. 

Dave was born July 30, 1941 to Edward and Erna (Kreth) Scheetz in Davison County, SD.  He was baptized into the Christian faith on August 31, 1941 by Rev. Paul Hempel and confirmed June 26, 1955 by Rev. Carl Wolf at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  He attended Baker #10 elementary school through the 8th grade and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1959.  He attended Southern State in Springfield, SD where he graduated with a degree in auto mechanics in 1961.  He was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Schotanus on September 2, 1960 in Springfield.  Dave began his career working for equipment dealerships in the area until 1964 when he and his brother, Harlan, purchased Schroeder Implement, which became Scheetz Implement in Parkston, SD.  He continued to operate Scheetz Implement until the time of his passing.  He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved to spend time with his family, especially time teasing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Beverly of Parkston, SD; 3 children: David Jr. (Angela) Scheetz of Parkston, SD; Bonita (John) Determan of Mt. Vernon, SD; and Kris (Shyla) Scheetz of Hartford, SD; 7 grandchildren: Levi (Liz) Van Overschelde, Taryn Scheetz, Thomas Scheetz, Amanda Schoenfelder, Charles (Rachel) Lawton, Jaxson Scheetz and Maddison Scheetz; 6 great-grandchildren: HaLeigh Van Overschelde, Payten Braun, Jessica Scheetz, Laska Hoffman, Kensley Bolander and Eloise Lawton; 6 siblings: Dorothea Geidel of Mitchell, SD; Gladys Geidel of Mitchell, SD; Lois Bialas of Dimock; Dwain (Kathy) Scheetz of Mt. Vernon; Gary Scheetz of Parkston and Marilyn Castillo of Parkston; and a sister-in-law, Elvina Maiden of Mitchell;

He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-granddaughter, Willow Mae Bolander; a sister, Katherine Heidinger; and brothers, Marvin and Harlan Scheetz.
