Obituary of Carl William Reichert

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sioux Falls – Carl William Reichert, 79, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital.  Funeral service will be Monday, May 12 at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Sunday, May 11 from 5 to 7 pm, with a 7:00 pm prayer service, at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston.

Carl was born December 10, 1945 to William and Hulda Reichert in Parkston, SD. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He attended Parkston High School graduating in 1964.  He enlisted in the Army National Guard on November 6, 1964 and served his country until being honorably discharged on May 1, 1965. He was united in marriage to Linda Hall on December 13, 1969, in Avon SD. To this union four children, Tonya, Cindy, Justin, and Jill were born. Carl began farming on the homestead near Parkston, SD where he milked cattle, raised and sold breeding boars and show hogs. In addition to farming, he also worked as a part time rural mail carrier for 20 years. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston where he served as an elder, trustee, and played dartball.  He was also a member of the Hutchinson County Pork Producers for many years. Carl enjoyed camping and fishing, going to the South Dakota State Fair, watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins, cooking, and bowling.  But what he loved most was spending time with his family, and attending all their extracurricular activities. In his later years of life, he was very proud of raising French Bulldogs with his daughter Jill.

Grateful for having shared Carl’s life were his wife Linda of 55 years; 4 children: Tonya (Lars) Nordang of Neenah WI , Cindy (Gary) Schoenfelder of Parkston, Justin (Julie) Reichert of Parkston, and  Jill (David) Straight of Parkston; 12 grandchildren: Lars Benjamin (fiancé Jennifer) Nordang, Alexander Nordang, Brooklyn (Richard) Kokesh, Brady Schoenfelder, Baylee (special friend, Brendan) Schoenfelder, Reese Reichert, Gage Reichert, Piper Reichert, Gracelyn Straight, Henlee Straight, and Fletcher Straight; a brother Herb (Sally) Reichert; brother-in-law Larry Hakeman; his dog Gypsy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws: Benjamin and Margaret Hall; 3 brothers: Norbert, David, and Ronald Reichert in infancy; 5 sisters: Sylvia Reichert, Ruby Preston, Selma Hakeman, infant twin sisters: Ruth and Rita, and a stillborn sister; in-laws: IlaRae Rudzitis and Bob Preston.
