Arlene LeMaye (Dufek) Schroeder was born September 7, 1931 to Louis and Louise (Hakl) Dufek in Geddes, SD. She attended country school east of Geddes and graduated from Geddes High School in 1949. She attended and received her teaching certificate from Springfield College in Springfield, SD. She was united in marriage to George Schroeder on December 17, 1950 in Geddes. To this union three children, Curtis, Craig, and Cindy, were born. She began her teaching career at Bovee Country School and taught at several others before moving to San Diego, CA where George was stationed with the Marines. In 1953, she and George moved back to Geddes to farm and start their family eventually settling on her family farm after the unexpected passing of her parents in 1966. She worked as a bookkeeper for Ernie Beck for several years and then she and George started their own business, Schroeder Farm Service. After selling their business and retiring, Arlene’s passion for teaching and love of working with children led her back to the Geddes school system where she worked as an Educational Assistant, well into her 70’s. She was a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, the Red Hat Club and the Geddes United Methodist Church where she was active in the ladies aid and taught Sunday School. She enjoyed cooking, baking, square dancing with her husband, solving crossword puzzles, crocheting, especially nylon-net dish scrubbers and watching wheel of fortune and the Twins. She also enjoyed traveling with family and to see family across the United States. A trip to a Minnesota Twins game with her two oldest grand daughters was a highlight.   Her home was always a must stop for friends and visiting family as she loved to play cards and serve a special "lunch". In the Spring of 2019, she moved to Sunnycrest Village in Sioux Falls, SD  and eventually to Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion, SD where she went to her heavenly home.
