Tuney Thuringer Obituary

Sioux Falls – James “Tuney” M.  Thuringer, 76, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at Avera Heart Hospital.  Funeral mass will be Monday, June 9 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Sunday, June 8 from 5 to 7 pm, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.


Tuney was born February 14, 1949 to Wendlin and Christine (Stadleman) Thuringer in Parkston, SD.  He graduated from Parkston High School in 1967.  He entered the United States Marine Corp. in 1968 until being honorably discharged in 1972.  He was united in marriage to Pam Baumiller on December 21, 1974 in Parkston.  He continued to serve his country  in the Army National Guard until retiring in 1989 after 21 years of service. After his discharge from active duty, Tuney farmed with his father and bought a Ditch Witch and started his own trenching service.  Eventually, he took over the farm which included milking cows and raising livestock.  Eventually, he began working for Weidenbach Construction in Parkston.  Tuney loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.  He was a story teller who also enjoyed shooting trap, hunting, fishing, horses, gardening and smoking meats.  He was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.


Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Pam of Delmont; 3 children:  Stephanie (Jeff) Muilenburg of Parkston; James Jr. (special friend, Shelby) Thuringer of Parkston; and Michelle (Ryan) Konrad of Parkston; 10 grandchildren:  Icis, Reco, Alexis and Kimimila Muilenburg, Wendlin and Alena Thuringer, Mia Boehmer, and Carter, Radley and Ryleigh Konrad; 7 siblings:  Bob (Sharon) Thuringer of Thornton, CO; Mary (Wayne) Tiede of Parkston; Steve (Joannie) Thuringer of Mitchell, SD; Judy (Denny) Ruff of Mitchell; Rick (Tammy) Thuringer of Delmont; Carol (Pat) Hasson of Spearfish, SD; and Lori (Mark) Zirpel of Parkston; 2 brothers-in-law, Doug (Mary) Baumiller of Parkston and Joe (Donna) Baumiller of Parkston and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Wendlin and Christine Thuringer; a brother, Larry; in-laws, Ray and Alice Baumiller; and 3 nephews, Jason Tiede, Erich Hasson and Christopher Thuringer.
