Parkston – Lorraine V. Kummer, 89, went to her heavenly home Friday, June 27, 2025 at Avera Bormann Manor.  Funeral mass will be Wednesday, July 2 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Tuesday, July 1 from 5 to 7 pm, with a 7:00 pm prayer service, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Memorials would be preferred in lieu of flowers.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Lorraine was born April 5,1936 to Raymond and Elenora (Weber) Montefering in Parkston, SD. She grew up on the farm and attended Sacred Heart Parochial School in Parkston. She helped on the family farm until her marriage to Florian Kummer on August 21, 1956. Lorraine was a lifelong homemaker and was dedicated to her family and her work on the farm until poor health caused her to enter the Bormann Manor facility in 2023. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Alter Society in Parkston.

Grateful for having shared her life are her surviving children: Jean (Roger) Susie of Holstein, IA; Tom (Viann) Kummer of Parkston; Jan (Tom) Weber of Alexandria, SD; Kevin (Mary) Kummer of Parkston; and Julie (Derrick) Matheny of Colorado Springs, CO; 16 grandchildren: Beau, Cory, Drew, Shane, Brittany, Kelsey, Jordan, Shannon, Nick, Katelyn, Kaylee, Tyler, Dustin, Holly, Kaden, and Colby; 26 great-grandchildren; and 5 siblings: Iva Jo Haiar of Jamesville, WI; Germaine (Vern) Weber of Mitchell, SD; Allen Montefering of Parkston, SD; Floyd (Jerilyn) Montefering of Parkston; and Sharon (Tom) Scheetz of Minneapolis, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Florian; a son, Paul Kummer; 3 Siblings: Lloyd Montefering, Mary Ann Grommesh, and Myra Jarman; and numerous in-laws.
