Mary Fuerst Obituary

Parkston – Mary Ann Fuerst, 92, went to her heavenly home Wednesday August 20, 2025 at Avera Bormann Manor.  Funeral service will be Monday, August 25 at 10:30 am at Parkston Congregational Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Sunday, August 24 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, with a prayer service at 6:00 pm, at Parkston Congregational Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston. 


Mary Ann (Reiser) Fuerst was born September 17, 1932 to Fred and Jennie (DeVries) Reiser in Tripp, SD. She attended country school near the farm through the 8th grade. She worked at the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell, SD. She was united in marriage to Willard Fuerst on April 18, 1951 in Luverne, MN. They lived on the family farm in Parkston until 1953 when Willard entered the United States Army. During his time of service, they moved to Puerto Rico, where they lived for a year and a half and their first son, Keith, was born. After Willard’s discharge, they moved back to the family farm near Parkston. From 1991 to 2003, Mary worked at the I-90 Restaurant in Mitchell. She loved working in the garden, planting flowers, fishing, playing cards and helping Willard can all the vegetables from the garden. She enjoyed dancing with friends on Saturday nights at the Pine View Hall in Mitchell and was a member of the Parkston Congregational Church, formerly Salem United Church of Christ. 


Grateful for having shared her life are her 2 children: Kevin Fuerst of Sioux Falls, SD and Kim (Perry) Bialas of Parkston; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Fuerst of Pickstown, SD; 3 grandchildren, Patty (Bob), Bob, and Dustin (Dani), and 2 great granchildren, Kelsey and Kamille; 2 sisters: Rose Neugebauer and Dorothy Smith; and a brother, Benjamin Reiser.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; a son Keith, her parents, in-laws, Gustave and Emilia Fuerst, a sister Agnes Neugebauer; 2 brothers Edward and David Reiser; 7 sisters-in-law: Clara Miedema, Olga Rembold, Velda Pearson, Nancy Reiser, Ardith Reiser, Lorraine Schulz and Lillian Fuerst; 8 brothes-in-law: Savin Miedema, Ervin Schulz, Eldridge Pearson, Ruben Rembold, Ruben Fuerst, Ruben Neugebauer, Norbert Neugebauer and Jerry Smith.
