Sioux Falls – Daniel Patrick Long, 76, went to his heavenly home Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Royal C. Johnson VA Center.  Memorial Mass will be Tuesday, September 9 at 2:00 pm, with visitation starting at 1:00 pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros Funeral Home in Parkston. 


Daniel Patrick Long was born November 2, 1948 to Oren and Dorothy (Seydel) Long in Scotland, SD.  He attended school in Scotland and graduated from Parkston High School. Following graduation, he earned his welding certificate from Mitchell Area Vocational School. He entered the United States Navy on August 20, 1970 and served his country until being honorably discharged on December 17, 1970. Following this time in the military, he had a number of jobs from welding to construction. For the past 20 years, he made his home in Madison, South Dakota. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, tinkering, and spoiling his dog Mitzy. 


Grateful for having shared his life are his 12 siblings: Mary Ellen (Richard) Mayer of Truman, MN; Cynthia (Don) Fisher of Sagle, ID; Steve (Brenda) Long of Indianola, IA; Mark Long of Pipestone, MN; Matt (Debbie) Long of Creston, IA; Pat (Brent) Morningstar of Maple Lake, MN; Mike (Becky) Long of Olivet, SD; Todd (Kay) Long of Mitchell, SD; Monica Ulses of Elkhorn, NE; Jenny (Kevin) Fergen of Dimock, SD; Peg (Dan) Minnaert of Boise, ID; and Morry  (Theresa) Long of Mitchell, SD; and countless nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Oren Jr.; a niece, Jessica Fergen; two nephews, Christopher Fisher and Samuel Long; and a great-nephew, Samuel Schaefer.
