He returned to Denver and began his work career and raised his children surrounded by his family and friends. He was an Arvada Police Officer for a short time before starting a construction business with his brother, building many homes in the area. In 1975, he began his career with the United States Postal Service, retiring with 30 years of service.
Dick cherished the friendships he built throughout his life and stayed in touch with many of his coworkers long after his retirement. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and golf but most of all, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking trips with his friends.
In 1999, he was united in marriage to Vickie Weerheim. They lived in Denver until 2001 when they moved to Rapid City, SD. In 2004 they moved to Mitchell, SD and in 2007, relocated to Armour to follow Vickie's postal career. Dick loved the small town and all the great people.
When Vickie retired, the couple became snow birds, traveling the United States in their motor home. Dick often joked that Vickie must have relatives in every state, as they always seemed to find family and friends to visit wherever they went.
