Sioux Falls – Kathleen J. Werning, 71, went to her heavenly home Monday, November 17, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital.  Funeral service will be Friday, November 21 at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Thursday, November 20 from 5 to 7 pm, with a 6:30 pm prayer service, at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston.  The funeral service will be livestreamed on Faith Lutheran Church’s YouTube channel.

Kathy was born September 10, 1954 to Raymond and Melitha (Stoebner) Brosz in Parkston, SD.  She attended Sharon District 10 Country School near the family’s farm through the 8th grade and graduated from Tripp High School in 1972.  She attended the University of South Dakota at Springfield, SD and graduated with a degree in Secretarial Studies.  Kathy worked at USD library in Vermillion for a short time before moving to Sioux Falls, SD where she worked for a law firm and the Good Samaritan Society.  She was united in marriage to Dr. Mark Werning on August 20, 1983 at Frieden’s Reformed Church in Tripp.  The couple made their home in Parkston where they owned and operated Werning Chiropractic Clinic for 45 years.  Kathy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, LWML, and the Jayceettes.  She enjoyed gardening and flowers, baking, putting puzzles together and traveling with Mark, especially their trips to Europe and to visit their children.  She loved spending time with her family more than anything else.  She never missed one of her children’s or grandchildren’s activities and was always waiting afterwards with a hug and a smile.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Dr. Mark of Parkston; 4 children:  Blake (Lisa) Werning of Sedalia, MO; Bret (Jayme) Werning of Harford, SD; Kara (Jess) Herman of Glendale, AZ; and Marcus (Jordain Croker) Werning of Spirit Lake, IA; 2 grandchildren, Ace and Avner Warren and a 3rd one on the way; a brother, Allyn (Jill) Brosz of Washington, DC; and a sister, Janice Brosz of Sioux Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Patricia.
