Kenny was born on May 9, 1935, in Platte, South Dakota to William and Hildegard (Kirsch) Ries. Kenny attended Dockendorf County School in rural White Lake, completing his education through the 8th grade. From a young age, he developed strong work ethic that stayed with him throughout his life. He farmed and raised cattle south of White Lake on the family farm with his dad and brother, Eugene. He dedicated many years to the land and livestock he cared for. He joined the Army on October 17, 1961 and proudly served his country with honor. Later in life, on May 26, 1990, he was united in marriage to Elaine Dockendorf at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Together they shared many cherished moments, especially enjoying going to antique auctions, a favorite pastime they loved doing side by side. Kenny will be remembered for his hardworking nature, love of farming, devotion to his wife, and the quiet joy he found in life’s simple pleasures.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Diane (Randy) Dockendorf Niewenhuis of Corsica, SD, Delton (Brenda) Dockendorf of Tyndall, SD, and Gina (Donald) Schrank of Rozet, WY; his sister, Carol Backes of Platte, SD; his brother, Gerald Ries of Hudson, WI; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hildegard Ries; his wife, Elaine; his son, Kent Dockendorf; his sister, Darlene (Bill) Peta; his brother-in-law, Dale Backes; his brother, Eugene (Mary Ann); and his sister-in-law, Mary Jane Ries.
