Roger D. Bordewyk, 81, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Avera Majestic Bluffs in Yankton. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 3 at 10:30 am at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Corsica. Visitation will be Monday, February 2 from 5 to 7 pm, with a 6:00 pm prayer service, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Corsica.
Roger was born December 15, 1944 to Henry and Linda (Slykhuis) Bordewyk in Tyler, TX. At a young age, he moved with his family to a farm outside of Corsica, SD where he graduated from Corsica High School in 1963. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Roberts on July 15, 1966 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney, SD. Roger farmed and raised dairy cattle, sheep and registered Duroc pigs near Corsica until 1985 when he received his insurance license and began selling insurance, eventually selling for Farm Bureau Insurance. He won many awards during his time with Farm Bureau Insurance.
Roger’s proudest moments were spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and attending all of their activities. He was an avid fisherman and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and church council, the American Legion, Lions Club and Corsica Development Corporation.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Phyllis of Yankton; 4 children: Mindy Vogt of Yankton; Amy (Wade) Hoefert of DeSmet, SD; Shane Bordewyk of Mt. Vernon, SD; and Monte Bordewyk of Stickney; 11 grandchildren: Austin (Mackenzie), Riley (Casey), and Chase Vogt, Derek and Jared (Katy) Hoefert, and Bryce, Brayden, Braylee, Sage, Zahndra and Cayleigh Bordewyk; 4 great-grandchildren: Bennett and Emerson Vogt and Huxton and Myles Hoefert; and 4 siblings: Wayne (Nancy) Bordewyk of Rapid City, SD; Dwight (Bev) Bordewyk of Windom, MN; Dawn Eichhorn of Easthampton, MA; and Diane (Randy) Niewenhuis of Corsica.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Angela; grandson, Brock; son-in-law, Larry Vogt; nephew, Kevin VanDrongelen; 3 brothers-in-law, Clarence VanDrongelen, Rick Eichhorn and Kent Dockendorf; and a sister-in-law, Mavis Dalton.
