Elaine was born on August 5, 1930, on a farm west of Parkston to Otto and Lydia (Schulz) Sperlich. She was the oldest of two daughters; her younger sister, Edna, joined the family five years later. Elaine grew up on the farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. She then remained at home to help care for her younger sister and assist with household responsibilities. Elaine met her husband, Otto Moke, at a dance, and the two were married a year later on June 27, 1951, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Marilyn and Gloria. Elaine and Otto farmed throughout their lives and cherished time spent with family and friends, especially at birthday gatherings and dances. Otto taught Elaine how to dance, while Elaine taught Otto to enjoy traveling and taking vacations. Together, they shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. Elaine found joy in canning, baking, and gardening. After retiring, she and Otto moved to Parkston in October of 1986. During this time, Elaine took up sewing and spent many hours mending and patching jeans for loved ones. She was a devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church, rural Dimock, and was very active in her church community. Elaine and Otto also enjoyed traveling, especially visiting the Black Hills and taking cruises. She appreciated the beauty of new places and the change of scenery, but above all, she treasured time spent visiting with her daughters and extended family.
She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Marilyn Moke and Gloria Moke, both of Parkston, brother-in-law, Ray Olawsky of Armour, sister-in-law, Marjean Moke of Parkston, and as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otto; her sister, Edna Olawsky; sisters-in-law, Selma (Elmer) Jendersee, Minnie (Herbert) Gerlach, Alvina (Ed) Titze, Alma (Bill) Jendersee; and brothers-in-law, Leonard (Irene) Moke, Clarence Moke, and Norbert Moke.
