Jo was born February 5, 1956, to George and Adeline (Kotalik) Kubal in Yankton, SD. She graduated from Tyndall-Tabor High School in 1974. Jo was united in marriage to James P. Boehmer on June 28, 1974, in Tyndall.
Jo began her career as a CNA in Tyndall before moving to Rapid City, SD, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and worked at the Good Samaritan Center. After moving to Parkston, SD, she continued her work at the local Good Samaritan Centers. In 1989, she began furthering her education at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, graduating as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1992. Throughout her career, she worked as a traveling nurse for the Lewis and Clark Good Samaritan Center and held full-time positions with Avera Bormann Manor and Avera St. Benedict Hospital.
Jo was a selfless person and an amazing nurse who truly cared for others, often putting their needs before her own. She valued compassion, strength, and hard work, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Outside of her career, she loved watching her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She also enjoyed crocheting, reading, canning tomatoes and pickles from her garden, fishing, and working on crossword puzzles.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Jim of Parkston; her children, Jason Boehmer of Mitchell, Jessica (Dan) Wolf of Parkston, Jamie (Brandon) Shores of Sioux Falls, and James (Amanda) Boehmer of Parkston; her grandchildren, Jasmine, JD, Aidan, Adalyn, Chase, Kaitlyn, Miah, and Stryker; her sisters, Darlene (Harold) Deering of Brandon, SD, Barb (Terry) Schuurmans of Tyndall, and Betty (Jeff) VanGerpen of Sioux Falls; and by her many nieces and nephews.
