Obituary of Don VanDerWerff

   Don VanDerWerff, 90, died at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Funeral service will be Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Grandview Reformed Church in Armour with burial following in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 6:30 - 8:00 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour with a prayer service at 8:00 PM. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

   DonVanDerWerff was born on January 9, 1928 on the family farm in Douglas County, SD to Bert and Zenna (Scholten) VanDerWerff. He attended country school in Valley Township in Douglas County. After his schooling, Don worked on the family farm with his father. On June 29, 1949, Don married Luverne Hamburg in Mitchell, SD. The couple moved to Don's grandfather's farm where he farmed. They moved into Armour in 1987 and Don continued farm work. He was a member of Grandview Reformed Church in Armour, Douglas County Memorial Hospital Board, Valley Country School Board, Armour School Board, rural water board, Lions Club. He volunteered his carpentry skills to many organizations in Armour. Don enjoyed fishing, gardening, and hunting. He could fix anything and operated a custom framing and matting shop. Don died on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour at the age of 90.

   He is survived by his wife, Luverne of Armour, SD, 4 sons, Jim (Ginger) of Beaver Lake, NE, Jerry (Karen) of Phoenix, AZ, Mark (Margaret) of Armour, SD, and Doug (Betty) of Madison, SD, sister, Mabel Bindert of Armour, SD, brother, Ivan (Jean) of Armour, SD, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 7 adopted Armour grandchildren.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Verlyn VanDerWerff, and sister, Ruth VanDerWerff.

   Memorial may be given to Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour.
