Obituary of Esther Isabelle Wagner

Parkston – Esther Isabelle Wagner, 90, went to her heavenly home Sunday, May 20 at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston. Funeral mass will be Wednesday, May 23 at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 22 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Esther was born August 18, 1927 to Andrew and Margaret (Hoffmann) Huenefeld at Plankinton, SD. She grew up on the farm and attended a country school near there through the 8th grade. She attended and graduated from Plankinton High School before going to St. Joseph's in Mitchell and getting a degree in Nursing. After her schooling, she was a member of the United States Nurses Cadet from 1945 until 1948. She was united in marriage to Joseph Wagner on June 26, 1948 in Plankinton. The couple made their home on the farm where Esther raised her children and helped with the operation of the farm. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning and made many afghans for her children and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared her life are 5 children: Barry (Doris) Wagner of Parkston; Mike (Kathy) Wagner of Waukesha, WI; Kevin (Lois) Wagner of Parkston; Tom Wagner of Pierre, SD; and Gregg (Rita) Wagner of Parkston; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; 2 sons, Peter and Bill; a daughter, Karla; a grandson, Cody; and 3 brothers.
