Obituary of Norbert Charles Roth

Parkston - Norbert Charles Roth, 89, passed away peacefully at his home near Parkston on Wednesday, July 11, 2018. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, July 17 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Monday, July 16 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Norbert was born on August 14, 1928 to Carl and Elnora (Fredrick) Roth at the family home west of Parkston. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. He graduated from Parkston High School in 1947. In 1951, Norbert went to the service and fought in the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1953. On September 10, 1957 he married Alvina Brech. To the union, 6 children were born: Michael, Donna, Karen, Linda, Lois, and Lola. Norb lived on the farm where he farmed, enjoyed his cattle, and built grain bins. He had a sweet tooth and enjoyed eating anything sweet. He enjoyed playing pinochle and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Norb was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston, the VFW, and township board for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Alvina Roth of Parkston, SD, 4 children, Michael Roth of Parkston, SD, Donna Henshall of Yankton, SD, Karen Huber of Mission Hill, SD, and Linda (Joe) Vermeulen of Letcher, SD 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers: William Roth of Parkston and Wilfred (Arlene) Roth of Minnetonka, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 daughters, Lois and Lola, son-in-law, Dennis Huber, daughter-in-law, Elaine Roth, sister, Rita Hohn, brothers, Ivan and Albin Roth, sister-in-law, Bernice Roth, and 3 brothers-in-law, Al Hohn, Edward Dvorak, and Kenneth Hohn.
