Obituary of Berneta De Waard

   Armour - Berneta De Waard, 76 died at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. Funeral service will be Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Grandview Reformed Church in Armour with burial following in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour. Visitation will be Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 5 - 7 PM at Grandview Reformed Church in Armour with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

   Berneta De Waard was born on May 7, 1942 to Corstiaan and Katherine (De Vries) De Waard in Aurora County, SD. She attended Valley #13 Country School near Armour, SD and Corsica High School. After high school, she remained on the family farm, then she moved to Mitchell, SD where she lived and worked. She lived in Hudson, WI for 5 years, then moved to Des Moines, IA and Lincoln, NE where she spent time with family before moving back to Armour to help care for her mother. After Katherine died in 2010, she moved to Prairie Villa Assisted Living for 7 years and lived at Armour Care and Rehabilitation Center for 6 months. Berneta was a member of Harrison Christian Reformed Church and most recently worshipped at Grandview Reformed Church. She had a gift and love of music and enjoyed playing piano and organ. She enjoyed spending time with family, her nieces and nephews, flowers, jewelry, embroidering, coffee, and trips to the Dollar Store. She died at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at the age of 76.

   She is survived by her a brothers and 3 sisters, Helen (Dave) Beukelman of Lincoln, NE, Norma (John) Flavin of Hudson, WI, Jay (Mary) De Waard of Armour, SD, and Carolyn (David) De Hoogh of Des Moines, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers-in-law, Tom Riesselman and Kerry Hinckley.
