Obituary of Janice Marie Walker

   Parkston - Janice Marie Walker, 74, died at her home in Parkston on Thursday, July 26, 2018. Funeral service will be Monday, July 30, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston with burial following in Parkston Protestant Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 5 - 7 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.

   Janice Marie Walker was born on February 17, 1944 to John and Johnnie Marie (Ferrell) Dunford. Her father was killed while serving in World War II when Jan was very young. Her mother married Russell Raymond Peterson, who Jan considered her father. Jan attended school at Lynwood Elementary School, Whittier Middle School and Washington High School and attended South Dakota State Universary. In 1965, she married Gale N. Walker in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Tyndall until 1992, when they moved to Parkston where Jan worked at Avera St. Benedict Health Center. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston, Hutchinson County Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and was an Avera St. Benedict Hospital volunteer, food pantry board of directors, and former president ofthe Parkston Commercial Club. She enjoyed reading, camping, fishing, traveling, gardening, flowers, lunch with the girls, watching old movies, and exercising. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She died on Thursday, July 25, 2018 at her home in Parkston at the age of 74.

   She is survived by her husband, Gale N. Walker of Parkston, SD, children, Brian Keith (Melissa) Walker of Frederick, MD, Carrie Lynn (Brooks) Goeden of Yankton, SD, Jason Dean (Kaylene) Walker of Port Washington, WI, and Gwen LeAnn (Jon) Graefe of Columbia Heights, MN, sister, Brenda (Patrick) O'Toole of Tyler, MN, brother, Stanley (Becky) Peterson of Dakota, MN, 7 grandchildren, Isabel Walker, Lucy Walker, Lance Walker, Logan Walker, Liam Walker, Kaleb Graefe, and Hunter Graefe, two sisters-in-law, Carold Walker of Wecota, SD and Diane Walker of Aberdeen, SD, cousin, Sandie Doss of Sioux Falls, SD, and aunt, Dee Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, infant daughter, Dawn Marie Walker, sister, Cheryl Denise Peterson, in-laws, Charles and Gertrude Walker, and 2 brothers-in-law, Denis and Charles Walker.

   Memorial may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston or Avera St. Benedict Wellness Center.
