Stickney – Bernice Mardella Borman, 87, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, August 15 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral service will be Monday, August 20 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney. Visitation will be Sunday, August 19 from 2 to 4 pm at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Stickney.

Bernice Mardella Borman was born June 25, 1931 to John and Lena (Hemeyer) Jacobs in Corsica, SD. She grew up on the farm and attended Pleasant Lake Country School through the 8th grade. She attended Stickney High School in Stickney, SD and graduated in 1949. She was united in marriage to Donald Borman on November 27, 1949 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney. The couple made their home and raised their family on the farm near Stickney. Bernice was a member of the America Legion Auxiliary, the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Blooming Valley where she taught Sunday School, and St. Paul Lutheran Church where she helped make quilts. She loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed playing cards, reading books, doing puzzles, embroidery, bowling and baking. Bernice went to her heavenly home Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD at the age of 87.

Grateful for having shared her life are her 6 children: Gladys Langland of Gilbert, AZ; Doug Borman of Stickney; Deb (Jim) Buck of Mitchell; Darla (Marty) Ryan of Waukee, IA; Steve (Chris) Borman of Apple Valley, MN and Jim Borman of Mitchell; 12 grandchildren: Melissa (Tom) Duchscherer, Jason (Tabby) Langland, Justin (Rachel) Buck, Jesse Buck, Stephanie (Ken) Curtner, Ryan Buck, Cody Ryan, Dillon Ryan, Jacob Borman, Michael Borman, Daniel Borman, and Joseph Borman; 10 great-grandchildren: Blake and Brooke Duchscherer, Joey Martin, Jett Langland, Caleigh Buck, Addisyn Hagen, Caden Endres, Paxton Curtner, Baby Curtner, and Camden Buck; 4 siblings: Joyce Larsen of Mitchell, Howard (Vivian) Jacobs of Spearfish, SD, Joan Juntunen of Plankinton, SD, and In-laws Connie Jacobs of Mitchell, SD, Beverly Bamberg of Madison, SD, Mardell Dockendorf of Corsica, SD and Dale (Donna Mae) Bormann of Corsica, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; 2 brothers, Vernon and Ron; 5 brothers-in-law, Bud Larson, Eldon Juntunen, Gib Bamberg, Delmar Bormann, and Dale Dockendorf; 3 sisters-in-law, Dorothy Jacobs, Marcia Jacobs and Eunice Bormann; and 3 nephews.
