Obituary of Jean Guenthner

   Armour - Jean Guenthner, 92, went to her heavenly home to be with her husband on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Armour Care and Rehabilitation Center in Armour. Memorial service will be Friday, November 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Armour. The committal service will be held at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

   Jean Guenthner was born on August 29, 1926 in Salem, SD to Earl and Mary (Applegate) Gapp. After she graduated from Salem High School, she went to St. Joseph School of Nursing in Mitchell, SD where she was an honor student and graduated in 1947. While working in the hospital, she met a World War II POW veteran, who was a patient. They started dating and she married Clarence "Cactus" Guenthner on October 17, 1948 in Salem. They moved to Armour where she became head nurse and administrator of Douglas County Memorial Hospital for many years. Cactus died on July 16, 2016. Jean was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Armour, VFW Auxiliary, and St. Joseph Alumni. She enjoyed playing bingo, cards and visiting with friends. She went to her heavenly home to be with her husband at Armour Care and Rehabilitation Center in Armour on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the age of 92.

   She is survived by 2 sisters, Illa Forester and Connie Holben, in-laws, Elmer (Jo) Guenthner, Lucy Vacca, Rosie Guenthner, Darlene "Corky" (Lowell) McFarland, Grace Guenthner, and many nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Alvie, sister, June, in-laws, Chris (Eva) Guenthner, Hap Forester, Clifford, Gib and Ray Guenthner, Wilma Peterson, Leontine Gieszler, and Elsie Beeson.
