   Armour - Ruth L. Winter, 92, died at Armour Care and Rehabilitation Center in Amrour on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Grandview Reformed Church with burial following in Goodwin Cemetery, Goodwin, SD. Vistiation will be Friday, January 4, 2019 from 6 - 8 PM at Grandview Reformed Church in Armour with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

   Ruth Laurine Winter was born on October 31, 1926 on the family farm near Goodwin, SD to Joseph and Ada (Chapin) Sherman, the middle child of nine. She was baptized in the Goodwin Baptist Church. She moved with her family to Goodwin in 1942 and graduated from Goodwin High School in 1944. She received her teaching degree from General Beadle State College in Madison, SD and taught rural school in Deuel County for 4 years. On June 14, 1948, she married Ralph Rex Winter at First Baptist Church in Goodwin. After a Blackhills honeymoon, they moved to Mitchell where they lived for 16 years where she worked as a book-binder at Education Supply and at St. Joseph Hospital laundry. She renewed her teaching certificate and DWU in Mitchell and taught in Davison County for 4 years. She was appointed and served nine years as Deputy Superintendent of Schools for Davison County. They moved to Armour in 1964 where they bought the Smith Motel. They remodeled it and renamed it Motel 281 and ran it for 42 years. Ruth did free lance writing fot the Armour Chronicle and Mitchell Daily Republic. She was a National Weather Observer and Recorder for 22 years and relayed weather information to KSFY and WNAX radio. Ruth had the honor of naming the National Weather Service Newsletter "Weather or Not" and also received the John Campanius Holm Award for the National Weather Service. Ruth was a member of Grandview Reformed Church in Amrour. She was treasurer for the Armour Senior Citizens for 12 years, and was a member of Modern Day Extension Club for 30 years. She died at Armour Care and Rehabilitation Center in Armour on Tuesday, January 1, 2019.

   She is survived by her husband, Ralph Rex Winter of Armour, SD, daughter, Rhonda Lou Winter and husband, Chris Krebs of Claremore, OK, grandson, Zachary Honomichl of Claremore, OK, 3 sisters, Eileen Smunk, Janice Bren, and Carolyn (Marty) Howard, brother, Robert (Mary Ann) Sherman, and many nieces and nephews.

   She was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Harold, Raymond, and Lloyd, sister, Grace Turbak, 3 sisters-in-law, Nellie, Helen, and DoLores Sherman, and 3 brothers-in-law, Robert Howard, Coye Bren, and Richard Smunk.
