Obituary of Alma Wuertzer

Please share a memory of Alma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

We have very heavy hearts as we say goodbye to our mom, Alma Wuertzer, who passed peacefully and went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 28, 2910 in Parkston at the tender age of 102. She lived a full life where she was loved by many while she watched the world evolve from horse and buggy days to modern technology.

Alma was born on a farm near Clayton, SD, on May 24, 1916, to Rudolf and Christine (Mettler) Wall. She was a first generation German American whose father immigrated at age 16. She was baptized and confirmed in rural churches near their home. She married our dad, Alton Wuertzer, on November 14, 1937 in a double ceremony along with her only sibling, Erna and her husband at St. John Lutheran Church in Parkston.

They farmed until 1945 when they moved to Parkston, which she called "The Best Town in America". She enjoyed being a homemaker her entire life. She was involved with Sunday school and Bible school at Salem Congregational Church. She had many passions: playing piano, quilting, camping, fishing, playing golf and cards, traveling, gardening, canning, collecting hats and entertaining.

Mom was preceded in death by Dad, in 1996, and her sister, in 1961.

Mourning her loss and thankful for her loving, generous spirit are Janice (Marlyn) Winter of Sioux Falls and Audrey (Joe) Kiner of Mitchell; 3 grandchildren, Julie, Jill and Jackie; 7 great-grandchildren; and countless dear friends, both old and new.

Funeral service will be Monday, April 1 at 10:30 am, with visitation beginning a 9:30 am, at Parkston Congregational Church in Parkston.
