Obituary of Berdine Kok

   Sioux Falls - Berdine Kok, 82, formerly of Corsica, died Sunday, April 30 at Covington Care & Rehabilitation Center in Sioux Falls.  Funeral service will be Monday, May 6 at 2:00 pm at the Christian Reformed Church in New Holland with burial an hour prior to the service at the New Holland Cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday, May 5 from 2 - 4 pm with a 3:30 pm prayer service at Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

   Berdine Nydam was born on August 11, 1936 to Peter and Hattie Nydam (Dyk) in Charles Mix County, SD. She graduated from Southwestern Christian High School in Edgerton, MN and attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, receiving a teaching certificate in 1955. She taught elementary school for one year in Rock Rapids, IA and for two years at New Holland Christian Grade School. On August 21, 1958, she married Raymond Kok at the Christian Reformed Church in Platte, SD. They farmed 3 miles south of New Holland, SD on the family farm for 40 years where they were faithful members of New Holland Christian Reformed Church. During this time, they opened their home to many foster children. Upon retirement, they moved to Corsica, SD where they lived for 13 years and attended Corsica Christian Reformed Church. While in Corsica, she revived her teaching career by being an education assistant in their special education program while also investing many hours in the Crossroad Bible Institute assisting prisoners with their Bible education. In all of her church memberships, she was active in Ladies Aide, Bibel Studies, and Coffee Break Leadership. They began spending their winters in Mesa, AZ in 2004 and she continued to enjoy her winter home away from home thru 2019. Upon Ray’s death in 2009, she moved to Sioux Falls and attended First Christian Reformed Church. She died on April 30, 2019 at the Covington Heights Nursing Home in Sioux Falls at the age of 82.

   She is survived by 4 children: Terry Kok and wife, Twyla of Tulsa, OK; Brent Kok of Scottsdale, AZ; Kevin Kok and wife, Maggie of Sioux Falls, SD; and Kristie Kok of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Henrietta De Bie, 5 grandchildren: Taylor, Tanner, Derick, Heather and Abby; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Randall and 1 sister, Adeline. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds may be directed to Dakota Christian School.
