Obituary of Merlyn Wayne Hogrefe

Merlyn "Skip" Wayne Hogrefe, 84, went to his heavenly home Friday, June 7 at his home near Milltown. Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 12 at 10:30 am at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Skip was born June 11, 1934 to Edward and Elizabeth (Uhrich) Hogrefe in Parkston, SD. He was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Clayton, SD and confirmed at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Alexandria, SD. He attended Pleasant View Country School through the 8th grade and Parkston High School in Parkston. He entered the United States Army on February 13, 1957 and served his country until being honorably discharged on February 12, 1959. Skip returned to the home farm where he lived and farmed with his brother, Harold. He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with his many family and friends.

Grateful for having shared his life are 3 nephews: Clinton (Jeanna) Schafer of Wessington Springs; Dean Schafer of Montana; and Dale (Leanna) Schafer of Wessington Springs; 2 nieces: Ruth (Steve) McInnis of Rapid City, SD and Kristi (Bob) Strachan of Arizona; and many cousins, neices and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold; and a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Glen Schafer.
