Obituary of Leonard Oliver Buck
Rapid City - Leonard Oliver Buck, 82, formerly of Armour, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City on Friday, November 15, 2019. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Grandview Reformed Church in Armour with burial following in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Armour. Visitation will be Monday, November 18, 2019 from 5 - 7 PM at Grandview Reformed Church with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.
Leonard Buck was born on July 19, 1937 to John and Vera (Howard) Buck in Aurora Center, SD. He attended school through 10th grade in Armour, then the family moved to Mitchell, SD and Leonard graduated from Mitchell High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1968. He worked 3 years for the Mitchell Police Department. He entered the U.S. Army National Guard in 1968 and served until 1984 where he was on the National Guard Drill Team. After his discharge from the National Guard, he worked for Federal Civil Services. He married Barbara Orr in November of 1959. On April 18, 1969, he married Charlotte Elliot. While he lived in Rapid City, he was ordained as a lay minister at Big Bend Presbyterian Church. Leonard moved to Armour where he filled in as minister at numerous churches in the area. He enjoyed wood carving, leather stamping, making belts and wallets, fishing, coloring books and watching sports. He was a member of Grandview Reformed Church in Armour, American Legion, and VFW. Leonard died at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the age of 82.
He is survived by 8 children, Tim (Sue) Kolbeck of Cottage Grove, MN, John (Fiorella) Buck of West Lebanon, NH, Debbie (Joe) Limauro of Pittsburgh, PA, Louann Manning of St. Paul, MN, Donna (Bryen) Torres of Gillette, WY, Todd (Suzanne) Kolbeck of Goldsboro, NC, Scott (Sherry) Buck of Rapid City, SD, Vicki (Don) Meis of Rapid City, SD, and Blake Buck and special friend, Mary Jo Marcotte of Armour, SD, brother, Clarence (Geraldine) Buck of Mitchell, SD, sister, Edith (Jim) Atkins of Willow Lake, SD, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Charlotte, daughter, Susan Jones, and brother, Harold Buck.
