Obituary of Margaret Marion Geidel

Parkston – Margaret Marion Geidel, 87, went to her heavenly home Saturday, January 18 at Avera Bormann Manor. Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 22 at 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Dimock. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 21 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm with a 6:30 pm prayer service at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Dimock. Margaret was given life by her Creator and was born on January 29, 1932, the child of Fritz and Ottilia (Scheetz) Wegehaupt at her parents’ home near Dimock, SD. On February 21, 1932, she received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. On June 24, 1945, she publicly confessed her faith and was confirmed by Rev. Dewald. She then received the precious gift of Christ’s Body and Blood. She attended country school at Washington #1, Delmont High School, and obtained her teaching certificate from Notre Dame in Springfield, SD. She taught country school west of Dimock. She married Herbert Geidel on June 17, 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dimock, SD. Together they farmed west of Parkston on the family farm. In 2006 they moved from the farm to an apartment in Parkston, SD. In November of 2019, they moved to Bormann Manor, Parkston, SD. Margaret was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, LWML, taught Sunday school, and Vacation Bible school. She enjoyed Bible studies, quilting, gardening, cooking, baking, puzzles, needlework, playing games, and spending time with family. She is survived by her husband, Herbert of Parkston, her children, Dianne (Clyde) Graumann, Rapid City, SD, Beverly (Kenneth) Soyk, Parkston, SD, Timothy Geidel, Parkston, SD, Paul (ShiMei) Geidel, Eureka, MO, Mark (Anne) Geidel, Hesston, KS, Peggy Rands, Seward, NE; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister Helen Geidel, sister-in-law Agnes Reimnitz, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fritz and Ottilia, brothers, Robert, Arthur, George, Melvin, sisters, Adeline Storm, Rose Wegehaupt, infant sister Lucille; in-laws: Anita Wegehaupt, Ruth Wegehaupt, Lawrence Storm, Elmer Geidel, Lorenz and Alvina Neugebauer, Bernhard Reimnitz, Albert and Anita Neugebauer. Memorials would be preferred in lieu of flowers and may be directed to Main Street Living or Good News Journal.
