Harrison - Linda Bordewyk, 97, died at Good Samaritan Society in Corsica on Sunday, January 15, 2017. Funeral service will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Harrison Community Church (North Church) with burial following in Harrison Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 5 - 7 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Chapel in Corsica with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Memorials would be preferred in lieu of flowers to be directed to the Good Samaritan Society in Corsica.Linda Birdie Bordewyk was born on December 26, 1919 to Martinus and Jennie (Kiel) Slykhuis in Douglas County, SD. She attended country school in Douglas County and later attended NYA (National Youth Administration) in White Lake, SD. On April 22, 1943 she married Henry Bordewyk. While Henry served in the military in California and Texas, Linda worked as a maid and in a Proctor and Gamble soap factory. After Henry's discharge, they returned to Douglas County and began farming and raised their 5 children. Linda was a member of Harrison First Reformed Church where she was an active member of Master Workers and Ladies Aide. She was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary. The couple retired from the farm in 1986 and moved to Platte, SD and in 1999 they moved to Corsica after Henry's health began to fail. Henry died on January 5, 2005. Linda loved doing things for others. She loved entertaining her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, golfing, bowling, fishing, and being with friends. In 2007, she moved to Good Samaritan Society in Corsica where she went to see her maker on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the age of 97. She is survived by 5 children: Roger (Phyllis) Bordewyk of Corsica, SD; Wayne (Nancy) Bordewyk of Rapid City, SD; Dwight (Bev) Bordewyk of Parkston, SD; Dawn Eichhorn of South Hampton, MA; and Diane (Randy) Niewenhuis of Corsica, SD; sister: Altha Brink of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law: Margaret Slykhuis of Brewster, MN; 19 grandchildren: Mindy (Larry) Vogt of Yankton, SD and their children, Austin, Riley, and Chase; Amy (Wade) Hoefert of De Smet, SD and their children, Derek and Jared; Shane (Trish) Bordewyk of Taunton, MN and their children, Zahndra, Sage and Cayleigh; Monte Bordewyk of Mitchell, SD and his children, Bryce, Brock, Braylee, and Brayden; Jeb (Carol) Bordewyk of Black Hawk, SD and their children, Archer, Fisher, and Quinn; Toby (Deana) Bordewyk of Spearfish, SD and their children, Dylan, Caitlyn, Alyssa, and Gracelyn; Holly (Matt) Wolle of St. James, MN and their children, Betsy and Henry; Anne (Travis) Krietlow of Mitchell, SD and their children, Aliyah, Hannah, Kimberly, Clara, KaSandra, T.J., and Sophea; Joel (Chris) Bordewyk of Windom, MN and their children, Ethan, Eli, Isaac, and Ava; Tara (Tim) Chamberlain of Mankato, MN and their children, Isabelle, Caleb, and Lydia; Kristin (David) La May of East Hampton, MA and their children, Kacie, Cory, and Devin; Sue (Tim) Beyrle of New Smyrna Beach. FL; Dan Eichhorn of West Springfield, MA and his children, Tyler and Caitlyn; Jason (Suzzanne) Dockendorf of Austin TX and their son, Miles; Jessica (Daryl) DeVries of Armour, SD and their children, Cameron, Carson, Daryan, and Quinten; Jocelyn (Jamison) Grosz of Harrison, SD and their children, Jaden, Tate, Ryken, and Oliver; Rocky (Fawn) Niewenhuis of Corsica, SD and their children, Darren, River, Silvanna; Riley (Jamie) Niewenhuis of Corsica, SD and their children, Stetson and Roscoe; and Rudy (Lydia) Niewenhuis of Corsica, SD and their children, Lilly and Archie. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry, granddaughter, Angela Bordewyk, 2 sons-in-law, Kent Dockendorf and Rick Eichhorn, 2 sisters, Esther Vavruska and Mabel DeBoer, and 3 brothers, John, Henry and Lloyd.
