Hilda Ann Thome was born July 16, 1922 to Henry and Mary (Herrmann) Schoenfelder on the family farm near Ethan, SD. She attended Tobin Country School #16 through the eighth grade. She was united in marriage to Norbert Thome on February 15, 1949 at Emsley Church near Ethan. They farmed all their life until retiring and moving into Parkston, SD in 1974. Hilda worked at Randalls in Mitchell, SD for 10 years and then at Starlite Lanes in Parkston for 8 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. Hilda's faith and prayer life were always strong and a large part of her daily life. She held her family very dear to her heart. She was well known for remembering people with a special and crazy greeting card. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and was an excellent baker. She also enjoyed music, especially polka and Daniel O'Donnell. Hilda went to her heavenly home Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston at the age of 94. Grateful for having shared her life are her 4 children: Duane Thome of Fremont, NE; Allen (Joyce) Thome of Rapid City, SD; Lois (Loren) Brech of Mt. Vernon, SD; and Jan (Tom) Klunder of Mitchell; 14 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norbert; 5 brothers: Vic, Arnold, Lloyd, Alfred and Marvin Schoenfelder; a great-grandchild; a niece and 3 nephews.
