Mary Ann Sommer, age 86, of Parkston, SD, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at Avera Bormann Manor, Parkston. Mary Ann (Weber) Sommer was born October 15, 1934, to Matt and Mary (Schmidt) Weber at Dimock, SD. She married Norbert Sommer on June 17, 1953, and worked side by side with him on the family farm, raising five kids, a multitude of crops, livestock and garden big enough to feed the entire neighborhood. In 1978, Mary Ann got her first job away the farm, sewing jackets at Raven Industries until her retirement. She got her driver’s license at the age of 59 and would often be seen tooling around Parkston in her little purple Chevy S-10. It’s that perseverance that got her through the difficult times – taking Norbert to his medical appointments, staying on the family farm after his death and adjusting to her life at the nursing home.
