Obituary of Wilford Boddicker

Wilford “Wimp” Boddicker, 91, went to his heavenly home Saturday, June 3 at Avera Brady Assisted Living in Mitchell.  Funeral mass will be Wednesday, June 7 at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Parkston.  Visitation will be Tuesday, June 6 from 5 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Wimp was born May 26, 1926 to Henry and Eutropia (Brecht) Boddicker on the family farm near Norway, IA.  The family moved to Parkston, SD in 1928 where he lived until 2007.  Wimp served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from September 28, 1945 through April 25, 1946 and again from February 26, 1952 until his honorable discharge on April 25, 1954.  During this time, he was a Corporal in the 545th Military Police Company at Hokaido, Japan.  He was united in marriage to Lyna Berl Gregor on February 1, 1949.  They farmed until 1972.  On May 26, 1978, he married Wilma Schoenfelder.  After moving off the farm, Wimp worked at Parkston Grain Company, was a greens keeper at the Parkston Country Club and worked for the Roy Weisz family until retiring in 1994.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish Council, the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid Association and a commander of the American Legion Council 194.  He also did volunteer work at the Parkston Area Senior Center, Hospice and Meals on Wheels.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Wilma of Mitchell; a daughter, Lynn Ann Pattishall-Beswick and husband, David Beswick of Littleton, CO; a son, Vince Boddicker and wife, Brenda of Mitchell; a step-daughter, Sandra Butterfield and husband, Gary of Mitchell; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers; 4 sisters; a step-grandson, Chad Butterfield; and a great-granddaughter, Arianna Boddicker.
