Parkston – Elizabeth "Betty" Lucia Degen, 90, went to her heavenly home Friday, August 20, 2021 at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston. Funeral mass will be Tuesday, August 24 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Monday, August 23 from 5 to 7 pm at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Betty was born March 26, 1931 to Andrew and Lucille (Springer) Heisinger on the family's farm near Parkston, SD. She attended school in Parkston and graduated from Parkston High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to Herbert "Hub" Degen on September 12, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. The couple made their home on the farm and farmed together until retiring in 1991. They moved into Parkston in 1993 and to Brookings, SD in November, 2015. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Betty was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society and enjoyed reading recipe books and cooking, especially kuchen.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Dann (Pam) Degen, of Denver, CO, Mary Jo (Dan) Schaefer, of Colorado Springs, CO, Gail (Tom) Weber, of Brookings, SD and Kelly (Faye) Degen, of Parkston, SD; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters-in-law, Marce Degen and Annabel Oberembt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Hub and a brother, Robert Heisinger and his wife Betty.
