Parkston – Marceline Josephine Degen, 97, went to her heavenly home Monday, May 16 at Avera Bormann Manor.  Funeral mass will be Tuesday, May 24, at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Monday, May 23 from 5 to 7 pm with a 6:30 pm prayer service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Marce was born September 9, 1924 to Joseph and Louise (Muntefering) Hohn.  She grew up on a farm 8 miles west of Ethan, SD and attended country school near there.  She was united in marriage to Louis Degen on April 29, 1946 at Emsley Church near Ethan.  The couple farmed until 1955 when they moved into Parkston, SD and built Degen's Bar.  They operated the bar until selling it to buy the Parkston Grain Elevator.  Marce was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved to attend her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's activities and also enjoyed playing cards and dancing.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Jim (Julie) Degen of Parkston; a daughter, Linda (Randy) Mulder of Parkston:  6 grandchildren:  Spencer (Becky) Degen of Volga, SD; Nicole (Zach) Anderson of Brookings, SD; Jared (Robyn) Degen of Rapid City, SD; Tony (Jackie) Mulder of Bath, SD; Wendy (Mark) Reischl of Lennox, SD; and Chad (Rachel) Mulder of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 great-grandchildren:  Jackson, Knox and Railey, Jameson and Abygale, Jakob and Mason, Gavin and Hayden, and Cassia and Aleisa; a sister, Alida Haag of Parkston; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Hohn of Sioux Falls; and a sister-in-law, Annabelle Oberembt.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis; and 4 siblings:  Willard Hohn, Hilda Herman, Stella Klumb and Vilas Hohn.
