Paul was born to Vern and Rose (Scott) Bormann Sept. 2, 1955, in Mitchell, SD. He was raised in Parkston, SD where he graduated from Parkston High School in 1973. He pursued a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in accounting at the National College of Business in Rapid City, SD.

In 1979, Paul fulfilled his dream to move and experience life on the west coast. What was to be a one-year experience turned into an 11-year adventure. While in California, Paul worked in the aircraft industry in quality control and as a purchasing manager. Eventually, he moved into the van conversion and recreational vehicle industry as a sales representative.

In 1990, he returned to Parkston and gained employment at the Farmers State Insurance Agency. He achieved his goals of acquiring his property and casualty, life insurance, as well as his real estate licenses. The insurance agency was sold to Wenzel Insurance in 1996 and Paul began working at Farmers State Bank as a mortgage banker and he also assisted clients with personal and commercial loans.

Paul and Kelly Ross were married Aug. 24, 1996, making their home in Parkston from 1996 until his retirement in 2010. That same year, they moved to Chamberlain to enjoy time together traveling and fishing.

Among his accomplishments, Paul became a brother of Delta Epsilon Kappa Fraternity in 1974; and was actively involved with most of his alumni brothers throughout his life. Following his father’s death in 1992, Paul was elected to the board of directors of Farmers State Bank and the Parkston Investment Company, serving in those capacities until the time his death. He was a member of the Parkston Commercial Club, eventually serving as president. Paul also served on the Parkston Rural Ambulance Board for 10 years and held several offices of the Parkston Lions Club.

Paul celebrated a “birthday paradox” with his older brother, Robert, who was born the same day four years earlier. Their birthdays were also on their parents’ wedding anniversary.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Jamie (Brian) Morgan and grandson, Chase Morgan; granddaughters, Heather (Jon) Garlington and Amanda O’Brien; great-granddaughter, Harper Garlington; siblings, Verna Bormann, Shirley Altenhofen, Robert (Debora) Bormann, Douglas (Kathy) Bormann, Mary (Dave) Mickley, Steven Bormann, Bruce (Brenda) Bormann, and Scott (Cheryl) Bormann; brothers-in-law, Thomas Greiner and Bryan (Mary) Ross; and many special nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Kelly; his parents, Vern and Rose Bormann; brother, Frederick; sister, Renee Greiner; father-in-law, Donald Ross; mother-in-law, Janice Ross; brother-in-law, LaVon Altenhofen; and his grandparents, Frederick and Mary (Krause) Bormann and Ovila and Evelina (Brunelle) Scott.
