Obituary of Rosaline Ann Mayer

Rosaline Ann Mayer, 95, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston.   Funeral mass will be Saturday, October 7 at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.  Visitation will be Friday, October 6 from 6 to 7 pm with a 7:00 pm prayer service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston.

Rosaline was born on a farm near Dimock, SD to Joseph and Elizabeth (Kurtenbach) Mayer on October 14, 1921. She was baptized and confirmed in Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Dimock. She attended Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic School in Dimock through the eighth grade. She did house work in Mitchell, SD for several years. During World War II, she worked at Rozum's Defense Plant making engine parts for the B-29 Bomber. She also worked at Mitchell Produce, Armour Creamery, and J.C. Penny Co. in Mitchell. She moved to California and was employed by F. W. Woolworth in San Diego. She moved to Rapid City, SD and was employed as a checker and clerk for Mills Drug Stores, Inc. In 1960, she attended the South Dakota Beauty Academy in Sioux Falls, SD. After completing beauty school, she became owner/operator of Rose Ann's Beauty Salon in Parkston for 39 years. She also enjoyed being a nanny and caring for children. Rosaline was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America Court No. 280 where she achieved her 50 year membership in 209. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Altar Society where she served as treasurer for a year. She loved painting, sewing, artwork and gardening.

She is survived by a sister, Cleo Mayer of Oakland, CA; a brother, Jerry (Bernice) Mayer of Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Norbert (Alma) Mayer and Urban Mayer; 3 sisters, Wilhelmine (Clarence) Roeder, Mildred (Virgil) Adams and Agnes (Edwin) Pape; a nephew, Charles Pape; and a great-nephew, Mark Husk.
