Obituary of Thomas Livingston

Thomas Livingston, 86, went to his heavenly home Saturday, October 21 at the Good Samaritan Center – Corsica.  Memorial mass will be Tuesday, October 24 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stickney with visitation beginning at 9:30 am.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Stickney.

Tom was born December 10, 1930 to William and Alma (Downing) Livingston on the family farm in Aurora County, SD.  He was the youngest of 6 children.  He was united in marriage to Gladys Schoenfelder in 1950 in Stickney, SD.  To this union, 2 children, Diane in 1952 and Patricia in 1954, were born.  Tom was a very ambitious businessman.  He owned and operated 2 different cafes, a laundromat, drive-in and sold and repaired tv's.  He always had an interest in flying.  He became a pilot after having taken lessons in a Cessna 170 from M.R. Steckel, Roy Crisman and Cliff Adkins.  Tom bought the Stickney Airport, later becoming the Livingston Airport, from Ted Carlson.  He had many pilot friends around South Dakota that he would meet at the recertification convention every year.  Tom flew off the Livingston Airport until he retired after 38 years of crop dusting in 1998.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Gladys of Stickney; a daughter, Diane Livingston and partner, Marlin May of Windsor, CO; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia in 1955; 4 brothers, Floyd in infancy, LeRon, Vern, and Arnold Livingston; and a sister, Reva Schrank.

Memorials would be preferred in lieu of flowers and may be directed to the Stickney Ambulance or Aurora County Cancer Fund in Plankinton.
