Corsica – Cornelius “Cornie” Schelling, 87, went to his heavenly home Tuesday, December 19 at Ava’s House is Sioux Falls.  Funeral service will be Friday, December 22 at 10:30 am at the Christian Reformed Church in Corsica.  Visitation will be Thursday, December 21 from 5 to 7 pm with a 6:30 pm prayer service at the Christian Reformed Church in Corsica.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Cornie was born on May 17, 1936 to BD and Marie (Ymker) Schelling on a farm near Rock Valley, Iowa. 3rd born of 8 children, he and his family migrated to a farm west of Armour, SD when Cornie was 17. On March 6, 1958, he married Jean, his loving and faithful wife of 65 years. He served in the Army National Guard and auctioneered at livestock barns. In 1959 Cornie and Jean purchased their farm southeast of Armour. He always contributed his success to the blessings of the Lord. In his later years, Cornie enjoyed helping on the farm.  He taught his family that God was always to be put above all things. His words and actions demonstrated that God was to be revered and thanked for the blessings from our Creator.  

Grateful for having shared his life and legacy are his wife, Jean, son, Bernard (Genevieve) Schelling of Armour, SD; daughter, Jacqueline (Dennis) Niewenhuis of Corsica SD; and son, Sheldon (Julie) Schelling of Kansas City; and two sisters, Betty Powell and Marlene Zomer. A great joy in Cornie’s life were his 10 grandchildren and his 28 great grandchildren.  

Preceding Cornie in death were his parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, granddaughter, Jessica Schaeffer, and grandson, Vincent Ries.
