Parkston – Lorraine Mae Koster, 92, went to her heavenly home Monday, April 29 at the Good Samaritan Center – Scotland. Funeral service will be Saturday, May 4 at 10:30 am, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am, at Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.
Lorraine Mae Koster was born August 20, 1931 on the family farm near Parkston, SD to Clarence and Justina (Wentzel) Beiswanger. She attended Pine District #73 near the farm and graduated from Parkston High School in 1949. She always said she was a 49er. She married Everett Reimnitz on October 26, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church west of Dimock, SD. They lived on a farm west of Dimock for 24 years until Everett died in a hospital in Minneapolis, MN on November 6,1976 at the age of 51. Lorraine then moved into Parkston where she worked at the Parkston Variety Store. She was united in marriage to Herbert Koster on February 21, 1978. The couple lived on a farm west of Parkston where they worked together caring for the animals and working the fields. They retired into Parkston where Lorraine enjoyed gardening and baking, especially her butterhorn pastry. She spent countless hours working with Herb sanding, varnishing and painting the wood crafts they made together. Lorraine’s favorite bird was the red cardinal and enjoyed collecting any item with one on it. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston and crocheted countless items including doilies, table runners, bedspreads and pillow cases. She enjoyed cooking delicious meals for her family during the holidays. Herbert died on May 3, 2004. After Herb’s death, she met Darrold Keiper who became her friend and companion until his death on February 3, 2018. Lorraine went to her heavenly home Monday, April 29, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Center – Scotland at the age of 92.
Survivors include her 2 step-children: Francis (Georgiann) Koster of Tyndall, SD and LaVonne Griffin of North Sioux City, SD; 7 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Donna Beiswanger of Fergus Falls, MN: and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Everett Reimnitz; a child in infancy; second husband, Herbert Koster; 2 brothers, Norman (Anita) Beiswanger and Raymond Beiswanger; step-daughter, Elaine Roth; step-grandson, Craig Martin; and special friend, Darrold Keiper and his daughter, Janet Wipf.
