Obituary of Henry Jongsma

Corsica - Henry "Doc" Jongsma, 88, died at Good Samaritan Center in Corsica on Monday, October 30, 2017. Funeral service will be Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Harrison Community Church (South Church) in Harrison with burial following in Harrison City Cemetery. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Henry "Doc" Jongsma was worn March 4, 1929 to William and Anna (Kalsbeek) Jongsma on the family farm northwest of Harrison, SD, the youngest of eight children. He attended country school near Harrison. After his schooling, he was hired by farmers in the Harrison area. He served his country in the U.S. Army from August of 1951 to May of 1953 and fought on the front lines of the Korean Conflict.

On June 26, 1953, Doc married Ruth Lefers in the Lefers' home. They made their home in Corsica, SD. The Lord blessed them with two children, Wanda and Mark.
Doc worked for 20 years in the Shanard Elevator in Corsica. After it closed, he worked 11 years for Menning Implement. After his retirement, he spent many years driving school bus for New Holland Christian School and in the summer took on many painting jobs. He was a member of the Harrison Christian Reformed Church where he served as elder and deacon. He was treasurer for Dakota Christian High School for many years and also was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. Doc passed away at Good Samaritan Center in Corsica on Monday, October 30, 2017 at the age of 88.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth of Corsica, two children, Wanda (Randy) Landhuis of Leota, MN and Mark Jongsma of Sioux Falls, SD, two grandsons, Jeff (Carmen) Landhuis of Sioux Falls, SD and Todd Landhuis of Luverne, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Carolyn, three brothers, William (Bill), Andy, and Harry, and four sisters, Winnie Klein, Ann Bultsma, Carol Van Kekerix, and Jeanette DeLeeuw.
