Parkston – Lawrence “Larry” J. Thuringer, 78, went to his heavenly home Thursday, May 2 at his home in Parkston. Funeral service will be Monday, May 13 at 10:30 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church west of Dimock with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Parkston. Visitation will be Sunday, May 12 from 5 to 7 pm at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.
Larry was born February 20, 1946 to Wendlin and Christine (Stadlman) Thuringer in Parkston, SD. He attended Parkston High School, graduating in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Army National Guard in 1964 and served his country until being honorably discharged in 1994. He was united in marriage to Patricia “Patty” Friskey on April 27, 1973 in Parkston, SD. Larry worked for Parkston Grain before becoming a mechanic, working for Zehnpfennig Ford and eventually opening his own shop, Larry’s Service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Larry was a member of The Knights of Columbus, American Legion, the Color Guard, and Parkston Gun Club. He enjoyed teaching Hunter Safety for many years. Larry loved FORD's, was an avid hunter & fisherman, an amazing story teller and loved telling jokes for hours on end.
Grateful for having shared his life are his 2 children: Frank (Kim) Thuringer of Sioux Falls, SD; 2 grandchildren, Allyson (fiance Alex Duus) and Colin Thuringer; Jodie Thuringer of Hill City, SD; 8 siblings: Bob (Sharon) Thuringer of Thornton, CO; Jim (Pam) Thuringer of Delmont, SD; Mary (Wayne) Tiede of Parkston; Steve (Joannie) Thuringer of Mitchell, SD; Judy (Denny) Ruff of Mitchell; Rick (Tammy) Thuringer of Delmont; Carol (Pat) Hasson of Spearfish, SD; and Lori (Mark) Zirpel of Parkston; many nieces and nephews and a very special friend Brenda Drefs.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Patty, his parents and 3 nephews.
