Parkston – Raymond R. Doering, 78, went to his heavenly home Friday, June 7 at Avera St. Benedict Assisted Living in Parkston.  Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 11 at 2:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm, at Salem Lutheran Church in Parkston.  Interment will follow in Parkston Protestant Cemetery.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Ray was born June 29, 1945 to William and Cordelia (Hirsch) Doering in Parkston, SD.  He attended and graduated from Parkston High School before attending Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD.  He entered the United States Army on October 26, 1965 and served his country during the Vietnam War until being honorably discharged on October 17, 1967.  He was united in marriage to Marleen Johnke on April 26, 1969 in Canistota, SD.  The couple lived in Mitchell, SD and Sioux City, IA where Ray worked for the South Dakota Department of Transportation and Milwaukee Railroad.  They moved back to Parkston where he worked for Ritter-Walz Implement and as the city finance officer for 27 years.  He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Jaycees and a lifelong member of the VFW.  He loved attending his grandchildren’s activities, collecting stamps and coins, fishing, gardening and driving “Rosie” around town.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marleen of Parkston; 2 children:  David (Jolyn) Doering of Parkston and Michelle Lichtenberg of Rapid City, SD; and 4 grandsons:  Nathan and Adam Doering and James and Jacob Lichtenberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
