Obituary of George Henry Schroeder

Geddes – George Henry Schroeder, 94, went to his heavenly home Sunday, June 30 at Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion.  Funeral service will be Saturday, July 6 at 12:00 pm at Geddes Community Church in Geddes.  A private, family committal service will be held.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

George was born December 19, 1929 to George and Martha (Weber) Schroeder in Armour, SD.  When George was 7, his father passed away and the family moved to Geddes, SD.  He attended school in Geddes and graduated from Geddes High School.  He was united in marriage to Arlene Dufek on December 17, 1950.  George entered the United States Marine Corp on October 5, 1951 and served his country until being honorably discharged on October 4, 1953.  He moved back to Geddes where he worked at a filling station, helped local farmers during planting and harvest seasons and worked for the Charles Mix County Road Department.  George farmed on his own for several years and sold Mormons Feed before starting a Kent Feed Store in Geddes.  In retirement, he worked as a custodian for DWU and Mitchell High School.  He was a member of Geddes Community Church and the Masons.  He enjoyed tinkering in the garage, playing cards, especially pitch, watching Twins baseball and visiting with people.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Arlene of Marion; 3 children:  Curtis (Diana) Schroeder of Ft. Dodge, IA; Craig (Deb) Schroeder of Doland, SD; and Cindy (John) Srstka of Sioux Falls, SD; 8 grandchildren:  Jeremy (Shauna) Schroeder, Patrick (Mandy) Schroeder, Brian Schroeder, Laura (Chris) Woolverton, Erin Srstka, Megan Srstka, Hailey Srstka, and Ethan Srstka; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dolores Greguson of Centerville, SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Christopher; a brother and a sister.
