Obituary of Margaret Swent

Margaret “Peggy” Minnie Alvida Swent, 102, of Mitchell, formerly of Stickney, went to her heavenly home Friday, August 9, 2024 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab.  Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 14 at 11:00 am, with visitation beginning at 10:00, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Stickney.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Stickney.

Peggy was born in Aurora County, SD, on January 3, 1922, to Marie Alvina Rosalie (Dittman) Page and Charles Harry Page.  She attended elementary school in Aurora Township and graduated from Stickney High School in 1943. She attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Mitchell, SD graduating as an RN in 1946. From 1946 to 1948 she worked at Doctors Hospital in Seattle, WA.

She was united in marriage to Johnnie Swent August 21, 1948 at Coure De Laine, ID. They resided in Utah and WA before moving to Stickney in 1952. Peggy worked at the Douglas County Hospital in Armour, Farmers State Bank and was the Aurora County Health nurse before retiring in 1986. After retirement she worked as the manager of the Senior Citizens Nutrition Site.

Peggy was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she served on the church council. She has been active in the American Cancer Society, Stickney Community Club, the Stickney Senior Citizens and the Jolly Jills Club, and was a charter member of the Aurora County Historical Society.  Due to her love of reading Peggy was instrumental in creating a library in Stickney. She also enjoyed being with family, playing cards and watching high school sports.

Peggy is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Greg) Noem of De Smet, SD, Milce Adams of Mitchell and son-in-law Marshal Uthe. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, John (Shawn) Noem of Sioux Falls, Tracy Noem of Tennessee, Kathy Schuh and fiancé Kelly Anderson of Edgemont and Kristy (Jerid) Ackman of Mitchell and eight great grandchildren, Malachi Noem, Samuel Noem, Elijah Noem, Riley Schuh, Jacob Schuh, Macey Schuh, Michah Ackman, and Sara Ackman.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie in 1968, her parents, an infant sister, her brother Forrest (Jack) Page, her sister June Goldammer, her daughter Lisa Uthe, son-in-law Michael Adams and two grandsons, Michael Noem and Kevin Adams, and a great granddaughter Ashley Ackman,
