Obituary of Raymond Joseph Mushitz

Geddes – Raymond Joseph Mushitz, 76, went to his heavenly home Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Platte Care Center Avera in Platte with family by his side.  Memorial mass will be Saturday, September 14 at 10:30 am, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Geddes.  Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Ray was born January 31, 1948 to Leo and Florence (Millar) Mushitz in Geddes, SD.  He grew up on the farm near Geddes and attended Geddes High School, graduating in 1966.  He served his country in the Army National Guard from January 6, 1967 until being honorably discharged on January 6, 1979.  He was united in marriage to Kay Franssens on August 21, 1971.  The couple farmed near Geddes where they also raised sheep and cattle until retiring in 2004 and moving into town.  He then worked as a crop adjuster for 17 years.  While farming, Ray sold O’s Gold/4 Star Seed and Archer Oil for many years and was also an over the road trucker for multiple truck lines.  He was an active member of the community serving on the Geddes School Board, Randall Community Water District Board and Weed Board.  He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and enjoyed playing the guitar and playing cards.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Kay of Geddes; 2 children, John (Denise) Mushitz of Geddes and Jessica (Roger) Cihak of Dante, SD; a grandson, Parker Cihak; 4 siblings:  Monica Westhoff of Hartford, SD; Faye Clough of Rapid City, SD; Karen (Barry) Bordewyk of Sioux Falls, SD; and Keith Mushitz of Geddes; a sister-in-law, Becky (Jerry) Erickson of Platte; a brother-in-law, David (Debbie) Franssens of Naples, FL; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Mark; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
