Floyd was born October 20, 1934 to Fritz and Hilda (Gerlach) Bialas on the family farm in Douglas County, SD. He was baptized on November 18, 1934 by Rev. Hempel and confirmed on June 26, 1949 by Rev. Dewald at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Dimock, SD. He attended Washington School No. 28 in Douglas County through 8th grade. He was united in marriage to Ileen Wunder on June 17, 1962 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He worked road construction for John Van’t Hof for several years before enlisting in the Army National Guard in 1956. He completed his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and served in Company C, 137th Engineer Battalion in Parkston, SD until being honorably discharged in 1963. In 1962, Floyd and Ileen moved to a farm west of Dimock where they farmed and raised their family. In 2000, they moved into Parkston but Floyd continued to actively farm until 2017. His love for farming was never ending. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church from 1934 - 2002 where he held several offices and served on different committees. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Parkston. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, vacation adventures with his wife and family, and attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.
