Obituary of Irene Joyce Sperlich

Corsica – Irene Joyce Sperlich, 87, went to her heavenly home Friday, December 27, 2024 at Good Samaritan Center – Corsica.  Funeral service will be Friday, January 3 at 10:30 am, with visitation beginning at 9:30 am, at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Stickney.

Irene Joyce Sperlich was born June 16, 1937 to Ernest and Allie (Muilenburg) Schryvers in Douglas County, SD.  She grew up on the family farm near Harrison where she attended school until moving with family at a young age to Garden Valley where she completed her education.  He was united in marriage to Harlan Sperlich on February 22, 1955.  Irene worked as a waitress for several bars and restaurants, most notably Wermer’s Steakhouse in Mt. Vernon, SD.  She enjoyed gardening, canning and selling Avon Cosmetics.  

Grateful for having shared her life are her 2 grandchildren:  Desiree (Jared) Bultje of Corsica, SD and Dustin (Ashley) Sperlich of Lennox, SD; 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emilyn Bultje and Jaylen, Beckley and Tayten Sperlich; and a brother, John (Deanna) Schryvers of Mt. Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, LeRoy; and Harlan Sperlich.
