Centennial, CO - Ann Tranter, formerly of Armour, SD, died at Denver, CO on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Funeral service will be Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the United Church of Christ in Armour with burial following in Pleaseant Ridge Cemetery in Armour. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 6 - 8 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Ann was born April 24, 1916 in rural Aurora County to Andrew and Mary (Tiegen) Running.  Ann attended the Gardner Country School and graduated from Stickney High School in 1936.  After high school, she received her teaching certificate from Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, SD and began teaching in country schools close to where she grew up.

Ann spent several years in California during the 1940’s and worked at Douglas Aircraft during World War II.  She returned to South Dakota in 1946 and began teaching in Wagner Public Schools shortly after her return.  

On August 12, 1950, Ann married Lloyd Tranter at Ebeneezer Lutheran Church of rural Corsica.  Lloyd farmed near Armour and Ann taught in the Armour Public Schools as well as country schools in the Armour area.  She retired from teaching in 1981.  Ann was passionate about teaching.  Her love for teaching continued into the final weeks of her life as she often talked about and wished she could teach again.

Ann was a member of the United Church of Christ in Armour where she was active in teaching Sunday School, Bible School and Ladies Aid.  She enjoyed community events and attending sporting events with Lloyd while living in Armour.  
Following Lloyd’s death in 2006, Ann moved to Centennial, CO to be closer to her daughter and family.  She enjoyed family celebrations and special time with her grandchildren.  Ann died at Someren Glen Retirement Community in Centennial, CO on November 29, 2017 with her family by her side.

Ann is survived by her daughter Marcia Saas (Robert) of Centennial, CO.; two grandchildren, Mae Ann Saas (Matt Conley) of Denver, CO and Jason Saas (Missy) of Parker, CO; one brother, Oscar Running (Ruby) of Hemet, CA; three nephews, Jerry Altenburg (Cheri) of Harrisburg, SD, Robert Altenburg (Pam) of Pickstown, SD and Stuart Running of San Ramon, CA; two nieces, Rhonda Weaver (Bill) of Tempe, AZ and Mary Lang (Tom) of Kirkland, WA; and five great nephews and nieces, Jim Altenburg (Jodi) of Harrisburg, SD, Chris Altenburg (Lara) of Sioux Falls, SD, Tanya Altenburg of Sioux Falls, SD, Dan Altenburg of Sioux Falls, SD and Ryan Altenburg (Jen) of Grovetown, GA.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Henry Running.
