Armour - Bessie Melva Boughey, 92, died at Armour Care and Rehabilitation Center in Armour on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. A memorial service will be Friday, February 23, 2018 at 10:30 AM at United Church of Christ in Armour. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Armour.

Bessie Melva Boughey was born to Julius Meldon and Jennie (Winn) Kelly on March 6, 1925 on a farm near Lakefield, MN. In 1929, the family moved to Spirit Lake, IA and in 1930 they moved to a farm by Spirit Lake, IA, where she attended school. On November 29, 1941 she married Raymond Boughey in Lakefield, MN. They lived in Milford until November of 1942 when Raymond went into the Army. When allowed, Bessie and other Army wives moved with their husbands, otherwise she lived with her parents. After Ray's discharge in 1945, they moved to Laurens, IA. While in Iowa, she worked as a CNA for a short time. A daughter, Sharilyn was born to them on August 3, 1945 and a son, Stuart was born on October 11, 1949. In 1957, the family moved to Canova, SD where they owned and operated a café. In 1958, they moved to Armour, SD where they again operated a café and retired in Armour. Raymond passed away on February 27, 2002. In 2004, Bessie moved to Towne Square Apartments in Armour. Bessie was a member of United Church of Christ in Armour. She enjoyed reading and loved pizza. She was a decorator in her home and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an avid collector of Avon Products, which became a family joke. In 2007, she moved to Golden Living Center in Armour where she resided until her death on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the age of 92.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Hawley of Armour, SD, son, Stu (Connie) Boughey of Mitchell, SD, 5 grandchildren, Jana (Scott) Peterson, Todd (Tammy) Hawley, Jennifer (Donn) Koster, Jill (Mark) Stoltenburg, and Niki Boughey, 10 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Cole, and Trey Peterson, Tucker, Braden, and Ashton Hawley, Keslee Koster, Hunter Stoltenburg, Dawson Boughey, and Jayden Albrandt, step-granddaughter, Eve Fraser, and 6 step-great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kayla, Kara, and Konner Picht, and Korey and Kole Fraser.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers.
